HISTORYTEACHER: 1776 historyteacher

Every year I use the movie based on the broadway musical 1776 to show to my 7th grade history class. I think it is a great tool to learn about a number of things.

1. They get to see what Philadelphia was like at the time of the Revolutionary War.
2. They see the different sides of the argument - especially the differences between the New England Colonies, the Middle Colonies, and the Southern Colonies.
3. They get to see the process of revising and amending the Declaration of Independence that the 2nd Continental Congress went through.
4. They get to see the original criticisms of slavery that were included in the original draft of the declaration.

This website has some great comments about the movie and some historical inaccuracies that are contained in the movie as well as historical accuracies. I hope everyone who has not ever watched this movie will take the time to view it. After you see it visit this link. You will enjoy reading more aboutthe movie.
